Helios Towers Africa (HTA) is the leading, independent, telecom tower company in Africa.

HTA acquires, builds and manages wireless telecom infrastructure, leasing it to mobile network operators across the continent. HTA pioneered the sale-leaseback model in Africa, buying towers that were held by single operators and leasing them back to the seller and multiple other operators simultaneously.

HTA’s model of shared telecoms infrastructure, and its scale, helps to deliver improved efficiency and network quality and reliability for operators,  reduced costs for users and increased accessibility.

The management team, supported by dedicated local management teams in each country of operation, has a substantial track record and unparalleled experience in both independent tower management and working in Africa, and consistently aims to demonstrate best practice in corporate governance and health and safety standards.

The company was founded by Helios Investment Partners, the leading African-focused private equity investment firm with particular expertise in telecommunications and tower operations in Africa. Investors include: Quantum Strategic Partners (a private investment vehicle managed by Soros Fund Management LLC), Albright Capital Management LLC, RIT Capital Partners plc and the IFC.

Currently, HTA owns and manages almost 3,000 towers, the largest number held by an independent company focused exclusively on Africa.

HTA currently has operations in Ghana, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The CEO of HTA is Charles Green, former CFO of Crown Castle International.
